Google Analytics 4

Looking at the list of updates below, you might think a lot happened in Google Analytics 4 in June, but take a closer look and nothing much is going on. I don't know who's in charge of the Google Analytics 4 roadmap, but it's disappointing. Google keeps rolling out features that don't really change anything about working with GA4, while many fundamental features we had in UA are still missing.

Custom dimension sync between source properties and subproperties

In my opinion, subproperties are a very unsuccessful attempt to replace UA views, and I've had doubts about how they work for a long time. Managing custom dimensions has been a real headache so far, especially since it was easy to forget that every new dimension or metric, or any configuration change, had to be repeated in the subproperty.

From now on, subproperties will automatically sync custom dimensions and metrics with their source properties. That definitely makes life easier for those who use them, but personally I'd prefer a similar solution for managing roll-up properties.

The expanded Consent settings make it easier to find pages where consent mode may not be working correctly. I really like the idea. Unfortunately, in practice these hints very often have little to do with reality.

The other updates are purely cosmetic and don't change much about working with GA4.

Nothing worth a longer comment happened in GTM or Looker Studio either
